This fall, from September 7 to November 2, 2018, watch the festivities be taken up the brightness notch as Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure both set out to celebrate the eternal bond of family, inspired by the traditional Mexican holiday, Dia De Los Muertos, the Day of the Dead.

Dia De Los Muertos – Day of the Dead

Dia De Los Muertos has been celebrated with numerous customs and traditions to honor the dead for centuries, but has only taken up popularity in the U.S. following the release of the Disney Pixar’s Academy Award Winning film ‘Coco.’

Contrary to what one would think upon hearing the name of the event, this Mexican tradition of Dia De Los Muertos is, in fact, quite lively and colorful. The celebration at Disney will hence feature exclusive entertainment featuring musicians, performers and dancers keeping up with the theme. The extensive festivities will also represent the incredible Mexican folk art through authentic décor and scrumptious food inspired by the tradition of celebrating the dead.

Disney California Adventure

Based on ‘Coco,’ the Paradise Gardens at Plaza De La Familia will be all set to exhibit the festivities of Dia De Los Muertos, allowing visitors to share meaningful memoirs of their loved ones on an interactive memory wall. Moving forward, fans will be able to enjoy the Mexican Arbol de la Vida, or the Tree of Life, photo spot and participate in mask-making activity that represents the ‘alebrije’ (spirit guide) from Coco.

Fans get a chance to make the most of their favorite film, Coco, coming to life through incredible art exhibits and live performance of traditional Mariachi music. Of course, no celebration at Disney is ever complete without food and this celebration too, comes with the most delicious Mexican food at Paradise Gardens Grill.

Musical Celebrations

‘A Musical Celebration of Coco’ will contribute to the entertainment at various times during the day, as the storytellers from Plaza De La Familia join Mariachi Divas in reenacting the story of Coco through musical performances.

Disneyland Park

Over at the Disneyland Park, California, the Zocalo Park in Frontierland will be turned into a bright, gorgeous display, with incredible papel picado, Calaveras, marigolds and iconic figures of La Catrina. Visitors can enjoy a festive menu of fantastic Mexican food at Rancho del Zocalo.
