On September 15th, hundreds of brave souls lined up to enter Halloween Horror Nights on opening night. Throughout the park, visitors got the chance to explore 9 terrifying haunted houses and walk around streets filled with horrifying mutants, monsters, clowns, and maniacs. On its 27th anniversary, Halloween Horror Nights continues to be the premier Halloween event in the country. If you are still wondering why everyone is talking about Horror Nights, we have the reasons below:

Haunted Houses

People go to Halloween Horror Nights to experience the most frightening haunted houses in the nation. Universal Studios designers have perfectly crafted every detail of the homes in popular horror films and added unique special effects for each. Guests have the chance to step into the scenes of their favorite scary movies and try to survive the soul-wrenching experience. This year, Halloween Horror Nights features The Shining, Saw, American Horror Story and much more.

One of the most anticipated haunted houses is The Shining, from Stanley Kubrick’s classic horror film from the 1980s. The setting is the Overlook Hotel, where visitors are abandoned alongside the Torrance family and have to navigate through wild apparitions and tricks.

For those looking to check out the original haunted houses at Universal that keep fans coming back year after year, they can check out Dead Waters, The Fallen, Scarecrow: The Reaping, and The Hive.

Scare Zones

As if haunted houses were not enough, there are various scare zones located throughout the park that offer visitors an “outdoors” horrifying experience. Step into the streets of New York and attempt to avoid The Purge or travel in time to San Francisco to be chased by aliens in Invasion.

Other scare zones that are sure to send chills down your spine include Roaming Hordes, where you will be chased by grotesque clowns carrying chainsaws, and Trick’r Treat, a zone where you will have to learn the rules of the game or suffer the everlasting consequences.

Live Shows

Halloween Horror Nights keep visitors entertained with live shows throughout the night. For its 27th anniversary, the event will showcase Academy of Villains: Afterlife, an award-winning performance with dance routines and special acts. People are also raving about Bill & Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure, featuring two of the most talented names in entertainment.  Do not miss this show as it will be the last after a 26-year run.

After surviving the haunted houses and scare zones, visitors can hop aboard the rides. Popular rides this Halloween are Revenge of the Mummy and Hollywood RIP Ride Rockit. Revenge of the Mummy is a rollercoaster ride in total darkness where you will be confronted by an evil mummy, swarms of beetles, and fireballs. At the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit ride you can rock out to your favorite songs in the adrenalin-filled ride with a wild 90-degree drop. Other rides that have people talking are Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts and Men in Black Alien Attack.

From haunted houses to live shows, Universal Studios has truly developed the most frightening Halloween experience that will keep visitors talking for the rest of the year.
