Universal Orlando Resort, commonly known as Universal Orlando, is an American theme park and resort based complex in Orlando, Florida. It is operated by the universal parks and resorts, covering an area of 541 acres, it is considered to be the second-largest resort in Orlando, right after Disney’s magic kingdom. As of 2017, universal Orlando had an annual attendance of 21 million visitors, making it one of the most visited theme parks in the world.

Currently, there are 3 themed parks in operation that are being managed by universal parks and resorts, universal studios Florida, Universal island of adventure, Universal volcano bay, these are the names of the theme parks and they house many different rides and attractions.

Universal Studios Florida was the first theme park of NBC Universal and it opened its doors to the public on June 7, 1990. The theme park is entirely based on the premise of letting people ride movies. The park was designed such that, the people visiting can experience the film industry. If you are lucky enough you may also find a film being shot at one of the back lots. The current theme park is divided into eight themed areas, all are based on some kind of movie franchise.

The second theme park being the universal island of adventure, was opened on May 28, 1999. This theme park is made such that it is divided into seven distinct islands and offers a variety of rides and experiences throughout.

The third park, universal volcano bay, it is a theme park and counts as the water park for Universal Orlando. It opened its doors to the public in 2017.

On August 1, 2019, it was announced by NBC universal that they were building a theme park called the epic universe, and it will be located a few miles south of the existing resort and would occupy an area of around 750 acres. The CEO of Comcast stated that the epic universe was the largest investment made by them in a park and will create 14,000 jobs, including professional, technical, culinary and other specialized positions.

The opening date was not announced at the moment but it was later learned that the theme park would be opened for public in the year 2023.

The current three theme parks, Entertainment district City Walk, and the first six hotels, all will now become the north campus of the resort and the new theme park will be the south campus, and for size comparison, with all the attractions in the north campus, the south campus is still bigger. The company may offer free transport to and from the two campuses, in the form of shuttles, and news suggests that the company has already devoted more than 100 million, to expand the kirkman road, which will become the main area for traffic, to and from the different campuses.

Universal has aired a concept art for the new theme park, and it looks like that the park is designed for pedestrians. The concept art shows the universal is going with the traditional wheel and spoke design with the layout of the theme park, the layout may be traditional but how Universal intends to use it is completely up to them.

At first glance of the Concept Art, you can see that the park is divided into four parts and a long corridor to connect to them all. From the image, the corridor looks massive and looks like it can house a huge number of shopping, dining, and other experiences.

The concept art shows that there will be several rides, including roller coasters, water bases rides, and multiple indoor rides at the theme park. From the images, it looks like the four parts of the theme park are completely isolated from each other. This feature has its advantages and disadvantages depending on how you use them, Disney used the same isolated approach but added a railway on the ends of its parts to make them more accessible. But it doesn’t look like there is such transport in place at the epic universe.

The concept art also shows a hotel or resort inside the theme park, and from that, we can also assume that universal is planning to make a dining, shopping, entertainment complex inside the park itself.

As it is just a start, and the Concept Art is entirely generic, it is very hard to tell, which area will be themed with what content. But universal has promised to keep everyone informed about the progress of the theme park as it goes along.
